On THE BILLET HOTEL BOAT
Four of us spent 5 days afloat,
With our genial hosts, Jackie and Jerry
Who strove to ensure that we’d “Eat, Drink and be Merry”.
The Kennet and Avon was verdant & calm,
We went up lots of locks – (and then came down),
The first 3 days we had tropical heat,
Some toiled and sweated – some put up their feet.
We talked, reminisced and laughed non-stop –
Just like the unusual Jack Sprat clock.
Herons and moorhens and mallards we passed
Then joy, oh joy, a Kingfisher at last!
And now our happy holiday ends,
We’ve had a great time and made new friends.
So Jackie and Jerry, we’re wanting to say
How much we’ve enjoyed our canal holiday.
