After the government’s restrictions were lifted in early August Jackie and I left the Marina for our own short cruise on board The Billet for just about 2 weeks. We had heard that locks had become impassable and that stoppages were in place so we had decided to stay above the lock systems so that if necessary we could make our way back to the marina without delay.
We headed out on day 1 and about a mile and a half out of the marina we pulled in just after a bridge to let 2 narrowboats pass us. But as we were there we thought “what a pretty place this is” and so we moored up for the rest of the afternoon and the night! Over to our right was a glorious field of sunflowers – so pretty and colourful in the afternoon sun.
We ended up staying here for 8 nights instead of just the one in order to enjoy the scenery and to complete some required jobs on our port side, which we did not have ready access to in the marina. We then cruised into Braunston and returned the following day staying a bit further along the canal but at an equally pretty place.
It was just so nice to see a change of scenery even if just for a short couple of weeks.
Keep safe.
Cheers,
Jerry & Jackie.
