Peter has been invited to do a presentation to the local U3A in Washington, Tyne and Wear, which will be entitled “A Union of Canal Journeys”.
The presentation will cover three aspects;
- A history of the canals, in particular the Grand Union Canal;
- the personal journey that brought him to make this decision to live and work on the canals;
- the journey of having a Canal Boat designed and built.
The U3A stands for The University of the Third Age. The movement is a unique and exciting organisation which provides, through its U3As, life-enhancing and life-changing opportunities. Retired and semi-retired people come together and learn together, not for qualifications but for its own reward: the sheer joy of discovery!
Peter believes that members of U3A would love the experience of the canals, enjoyed through the comfort and safety of The Billet Hotel Boat, where guests can choose between enjoying the tranquil countryside from the comfort of the stern deck seating, or exercising some muscles walking the tow path or helping with locks.
As the first of such presentations, it will be exciting to garner the reactions and feedback of such a discerning group.
