This 4 night break provides a cruise through some of the finest stretches of the southern Grand Union canal, quiet and relaxing with interesting places along the way.
Starting from the iconic canal village of Stoke Bruerne; a visit to the canal museum here is highly recommended before we set off. By all means drop your bags off with us, then take a look around.
We pass down a flight of 7 locks, and negotiate a 6 mile pound (stretch of canal between two locks) to Cosgrove; a tranquil landscape with characteristic ridge & furrow pasturelands. Crossing the River Ouse at Cosgrove over the 200 year old Iron Trunk Aquaduct, we arrive at the medieval village of Wolverton with its motte and bailey castle to our right. Wolverton isn’t as well-known as it used to be for its railway works, but it continues to be hone to the Royal train.
At Fenny Stratford the unusual lock is straddled by a swing bridge. Nearby are Walton Hall, home to the Open University, and Bletchley Park, the famous WW2 code-breaking centre. Time can be made available for a visit to Bletchley Park, which comes highly recommended.
Passing through the pleasant locks at Soulbury, we finish with a tranquil cruise to our Linslade.
Join us aboard The Billet at 2pm for sparkling wine, canapés and introductory welcome and safety chat. After settling in we will cruise at 3pm. Departure on your final day will be at 10am, after a sumptuous breakfast.
